On International Drone Day, we highlight how innovation supports real change on the ground.
In Lao PDR, GIZ, through the Climate Protection through Avoided Deforestation (CliPAD) project is introducing drone technology to support forest monitoring, land use planning, and restoration, especially in remote areas.
Drones provide real-time data that helps detect forest changes, map land boundaries, and support more informed and timely decision-making.
At the same time, capacity building is a key focus. Government partners at national and provincial levels are being trained to operate drones, process data, and apply the information in their day-to-day work. This helps ensure that the technology is not only used effectively, but also sustained beyond the project, strengthening long-term ownership and institutional capacity.
This shows how combining innovation with local capacity development can make climate solutions more practical, scalable, and sustainable. Co-financed by Germany and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), CliPAD contributes to Lao PDR’s Emission Reduction Programme and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), aiming to reduce 11.7 million tCO₂ equivalent while strengthening sustainable livelihoods at village level.

ໃນ ສປປ ລາວ, ອົງການ GIZ ຜ່ານໂຄງການ CliPAD ໄດ້ນຳໃຊ້ໂດຣນ ເພື່ອຊ່ວຍໃນການຕິດຕາມປ່າໄມ້, ການວາງແຜນນຳໃຊ້ທີ່ດິນ ແລະ ການຟື້ນຟູພື້ນທີ່ປ່າໄມ້ ໂດຍສະເພາະໃນພື້ນທີ່ທີ່ເຂົ້າເຖິງຍາກ.
ໂດຣນຊ່ວຍໃຫ້ໄດ້ຂໍ້ມູນແບບທັນເວລາ ເພື່ອກວດຈັບການປ່ຽນແປງຂອງປ່າໄມ້ ແລະ ຊ່ວຍໃນການວາງແຜນໃຫ້ຊັດເຈນຂຶ້ນ.
ພ້ອມກັນນັ້ນ, ອົງການກໍ່ຍັງໄດ້ເສີມສ້າງຄວາມເຂັ້ມແຂງໃຫ້ແກ່ພາກລັດ ໃນຂັ້ນສູນກາງ, ຂັ້ນແຂວງ ແລະ ຂັ້ນເມືອງອີກດ້ວຍ ໃນການຝຶກອົບຮົມ ນໍາໃຊ້ໂດຣນ, ຈັດການຂໍ້ມູນ ແລະ ນຳໃຊ້ຂໍ້ມູນໃນວຽກງານປະຈຳວັນ.
ດັ່ງນັ້ນ, ນີ້ຈຶ່ງຊ່ວຍເຮັດໃຫ້ເທັກໂນໂລຊີ ບໍ່ແມ່ນແຕ່ຖືກນຳໃຊ້ໃນໄລຍະສັ້ນ ແຕ່ສາມາດສືບຕໍ່ໄດ້ໃນອະນາຄົດ ໂດຍສ້າງຄວາມເປັນເຈົ້າຂອງ ແລະ ຄວາມພ້ອມໃຫ້ແກ່ຄູ່ຮ່ວມງານພາກລັດອີກດ້ວຍ.
